                     Fatou Ceesy’s Story

Fatou Ceesy, a young Gambian woman, began experiencing painful, scaly patches on her skin and swollen joints that made daily tasks difficult. For years, she faced stigma and isolation, unaware of what was happening to her body. Through the Psoriasis and Arthritis Association of The Gambia, Fatou finally received proper diagnosis, counseling, and access to treatment. With medical support and encouragement from the association’s patient network, her condition improved, and her confidence was restored. Today, Fatou is an active advocate, raising awareness so others living with psoriasis and arthritis can find hope, care, and a supportive community.

What we do

Awareness and Education

We raise public awareness about psoriasis and arthritis through community outreach, media campaigns, and educational workshops. Reduce stigma, and promote early diagnosis and treatment.

Patient Support and Empowerment

We provide support for individuals and families affected by psoriasis and arthritis through counseling, peer groups, and online platforms. We empower patients to manage their conditions and advocate for their rights.

Training and Capacity Building

We organize training programs for healthcare providers to improve diagnosis, referral, and management of psoriasis and arthritis, particularly at the primary care level.

Community Outreach and Screening

We conduct community screening and outreach programs to identify undiagnosed cases and connect individuals to appropriate healthcare services.

Research and Innovation

Our research program focuses on understanding the burden, causes, and impact of psoriasis and arthritis in The Gambia. We collaborate with healthcare institutions, universities, and international partners to promote local research, improve data collection, and contribute to evidence-based care and policy.
